Director of Finance
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
- Leading/Financial Management:
- Oversees and directs treasury, budgeting, audits, accounting, real estate and insurance activities;
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department and the business office team performance;
- Develops, interprets, implements and administers policies and procedures of the facility as they pertain to finance and Fairlawn, and it’s philosophy;
- Prepare and provide monthly financial statements for Management and the Board for all Fairlawn activities;
- Develop and manage the production of the annual budgets and forecasts for Operational Management;
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit, as well as other requested audits, i.e. BWC.
- Organizing & Planning/Accounting Practices and Compliance:
- “Mission oriented” to the operation of a faith-based, non-profit Life Care Community organization;
- Makes recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures;
- Establish areas of responsibility for the business office team and supervise their performance;
- Ensures Fairlawn’s compliance with local, state, federal and LTC laws, rules and regulations that pertain to financial matters. Make Policy changes and recommendations to the CEO as they arise;
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants;
- Consolidate operating reports, tax reporting and other required compliance reporting;
- Manage process of submission of cost reports, tax reporting and other required compliance reporting;
- Manage the performance of cash management including monthly Revenue Cycle and Accounts Payable reviews. Review business office functions and manage the monthly closing window.
- Controlling/Business and Financial conditions:
- Manage completion of annual 990 filings, Medicare and Medicaid Cost reports, and 5500 reporting;
- Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, capital improvements, pricing decisions and any contract negotiations;
- Review the performance of business office functions and manage monthly closing workflow;
- Directs and analyzes studies of general economic, business and financial conditions and their impact on Fairlawn. Review, investigate, and correct errors in financial entries, documents and reports;
- Serve as the retirement plan administrator for the Defined plans. Monitor and manage annual reporting for the plan with Human Resources;
- Monitor and manage compliance with all payroll reporting requirements and tax filings;
- Review monthly bank reconciliations and fixed assets schedules as prepared by staff.
Secondary Job Functions or Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate and practice the Fairlawn values of Respect, Teamwork, Compassion, Accountability and Quality in all duties, responsibilities and interactions at Fairlawn. Must have a love for the Elderly;
- Responsible to rotate on weekend coverage with other Leadership staff members;
- Serve as a Back-up Administrator as directed when the CEO/Administrator is out of the office;
- Maintain relationships with banks and other financial institutions;
- In-Services, Training and Education: Attend and participate in scheduled training, in-services, and educational classes to maintain current certification as mandated by Fairlawn Haven and the State of Ohio;
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Education
- Bachelor’s and/or MBA degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
- Licensure as a CPA is preferred;
- Experience in Senior Care Services is required;
- Required to hold a current license as a Nursing Home Administrator in the State of Ohio, or willing to obtain the license;
- Must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize and communicate effectively;
- Supervisory experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with high satisfaction working closely with the CEO, Board and Business Office;
- Must be able to push, pull move and/or lift supplies and equipment Max. over 25 lbs.;
- High level of computer skills is necessary;
- Knowledge of Medicare & Medicaid programs, as well as specific programs related to Long Term Care;
- Must be a self-starter, well organized and thorough in work habits.
