    Live Webinar - This activity meets the BELTSS Ethics class requirement

    During this session, BELTSS staff provides an overview of laws and rules from the Ohio Revised and Ohio Administrative Codes (Chapter 4751) which govern the practice of nursing home administration.  Recent regulatory changes will be reviewed as well as changes to the LNHA & HSE license renewal requirements and transition to the biennial license renewal processes which are underway.  The top violations/issues and disciplinary actions Ohio nursing home administrators have faced recently will also be reviewed as well as the Healthcare Executive Code of Ethics.

    Live Webinar: LeadingAge Ohio Policy & Advocacy Bootcamp Series

    Policy decisions and grassroots advocacy play one of the largest roles in the sustainability of a thriving system that supports aging services. Policy decisions are frequently reflected in practice changes and resource allocations, including legislative and regulatory outcomes at the federal, state, and local levels. Grassroots advocacy helps shape dialogue among change-agents and key decision makers. 

    In this policy and advocacy bootcamp series, attendees will learn about the legislative and regulatory basics, including how the state operating budget moves through the Ohio legislature and what Lame Duck can mean for aging services. Additionally, attendees will garner hands-on, out of the box ways to increase their advocacy profile that supports their facility, residents, and profession.  Lastly, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from lobbyists, lawmakers, and LeadingAge Ohio member advocates.

    During this 1-hour session, the differences between advocacy, lobbying, and politicking, as well as how to leave your politics at the door. Learners will also garner hands-on strategies to increase their advocacy profile through this interactive, virtual workshop, including, but not limited to how to share a good story and how to host a candidates’ forum.

    The Office of Inspector General (OIG) has announced nursing homes will be one of the first industry segment-specific compliance program guidance documents (ICPGs) released in 2024. The OIG did release the General Compliance Program Guidance (GCPG) for healthcare settings at the end of 2023. Nursing homes are required to develop a compliance and ethics program as part of the requirements of participation. A nursing home’s compliance and ethics program should be developed so that it is likely to be effective in preventing and detecting criminal, civil, and administrative violations under the Act and in promoting quality of care. This webinar will discuss the OIG’s guidance documents, the seven recommended elements of the program, and elements of an anonymous reporting systems. ODH updates and current citation trends in Ohio will be discussed.

    The new Hospice Wage Index Rule and exciting dementia program opportunities were reviewed during this month’s information-packed All-Member Webinar. 

    LeadingAge Ohio’s Anne Shelly provided information on the new hospice rule, which included details on the HOPE tool. Because this rule constitutes the most substantial reforms to hospice in over a decade, LeadingAge Ohio will continue to keep members up-to-date with continuing education as information is released. 

    Representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association also joined members to review a promising project that is headed back to the Buckeye state. The Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations is a coaching model used to support providers in adopting latest approaches in person-centered dementia care that is aligned with the association’s evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations. Listen to the All-Member Call recording to learn more about the program, and how nursing homes might become a part of the ongoing research project. 

    The Alzheimer’s Association also presented information about grant opportunities for dementia respite program expansion through their Center for Dementia Respite Innovation. Over the course of 5 years, the CDRI will award $20 million in grants to local respite care providers to improve and increase the delivery of person-centered dementia care.
