Hospice MITS Portal: Goes Live August,  ONLY Two Trainings Offered

Hospice MITS Portal:
Goes Live August,  ONLY Two Trainings Offered

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) is in the process of User Acceptance Training (UAT) for the MITS hospice portal.  Several ODM staff are testing the portal and are actively working to make certain the system is ready for the August 16, 2017 release date.  ODM is also slated to have a conference call with a hospice that has been utilizing the portal for some time, to gather “hands on” information to apply during the UAT process.

ODM will be offering billing training for Hospice providers.  LeadingAge Ohio is recommending all hospice providers participate in either of the two trainings which will be held in person on Monday, August 21, 2017 and Tuesday, August 29, 2017.

ODM Recommendations for Hospice Providers

ODM has asked that hospice providers prioritize who they enroll in the MITS hospice portal.  The process is as follows:

  1. The initial enrollees should be all new hospice Medicaid fee-for-services patients and dual eligible patients (Medicare primary hospice and Medicaid room and board) as of August 16, 2017.
  1. Hospices should then enter all Medicaid nursing home room and board patients that were admitted prior to August 16, 2017, but are still alive on or after August 16, 2017. Do NOT  enter any Medicaid nursing home room and board patients who died prior to August 16 unless there is an adjustment that needs to be made to their room and board claim.
  1. Lastly, providers should enter their Medicaid FFS patients who were on service for routine home care (T2042) from January 1, 2016 to on or after August 16, 2017. At a later date Ohio Department of Medicaid will do an adjustment on the routine home care claims back to January 1, 2016.

OAC 5160-56-03.3 will become effective on October 1, 2017 and with the effective date of this rule, ODM will begin paying the 2-tiered routine home care and Service Intensity Add-On (SIA) payments moving forward.

Any questions regarding the roll-out of MITS for hospices should be directed to Anne Shelley, Director of Hospice and Home Health Regulatory Relations at ashelley@leadingageohio.org.
