Staff Accountant

Otterbein SeniorLife has an opening for a fulltime, exempt Staff Accountant.  This position will be located at our Corporate Headquarters in Lebanon, OH.

SUMMARY

This position has responsibility to prepare and analyze financial results for assigned ministries and providing accounting support to the accounting department to ensure the ministries meet internal/external reporting as well as filing deadlines.  The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing management with concise and timely analyses as to significant changes, trends or variances in financial results of Otterbein SeniorLife ministries. 

Responsibilities:         

  • Supports Otterbein SeniorLife mission, values, strategic goals and high standards of customer service.  Demonstrates the mission through both behavior and job performance on a day to day basis.
  • Adheres to Corporate Compliance Program, including confidentiality HIPAA protected health information.
  • Prepares monthly GAAP financial statements while collaborating with ministries to communicate financial results and identification of efficiencies.
  • Analyze revenue cycle and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately
  • Collaborates with ministries in training and education of accounting and financial information and how to use the financial information to better manage the results.
  • Maintain audit ready supporting account analysis and work papers in preparation for the annual audit.
  • Assist with report writing in BI360 for all ministries including preparation and training of other staff.
  • Assist with maintaining up to date, detailed Fixed Asset records and capital budget, collaborating with key leadership.
  • Assist AVP Finance/Controller and Assistant Controller with annual audits or tax returns including 990’s, 5500’s, and ERISA Audits.
  • Assist all ministries with preparation of annual budget.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and analysis as assigned.
  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Skills Required

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and work with a team; critical thinking, organizational skills, and excellent computer skills.
  • Knowledge and competency in accounting and analysis and knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Able to work in high stress environment and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Minor travel required.

Qualifications:

  • Must have 3 – 5 years accounting experience; accounting experience in skilled nursing facilities, home health and hospice preferred
  • Experience with BI360 and or Crystal report writer
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills specifically in Outlook, Excel, and Access
  • Minimum 4 year degree in Business or Accounting preferred
