SNF Payment and Policy Changes FY 2020

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the final rule for SNF Medicare payment rates and quality programs on July 30. The regulation will be effective on October 1, 2019. The projected aggregate payment for SNFs for FY 2020 is an increase of $851 million or 2.4% from FY 2019.

The rule also included revisions to reflect changes to the assessment schedule based on the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM). The definition of group therapy under SNF PPS was updated as well as a subregulatory process for updating ICD-10 codes under PDPM. This rule updates the requirements of the Quality Reporting Program (QRP) and Value Based Purchasing (VBP) programs.

This news release gives an overview of the changes.
