The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) references in F-tag 700, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Hospital Bed System Dimensional and Assessment Guidance to Reduce Entrapment document. This document and additional resources can be found on the FDA’s hospital bed safety webpage. The Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup has also developed the Bed Safety Entrapment Kit. Additional regulatory guidance on the use and alternatives to bed rails can be found in the State Operations Manual (SOM) Appendix PP.
