ICYMI: What Does Ohio’s NH Quality Navigator Display for You?

On this week’s All-Member Call, Chief Communications Officer Nathan Takitch of the Ohio Department of Aging provided a tour of the new Nursing Home Quality Navigator, a public-facing consumer tool developed to help families shop for nursing home care. The tool aggregates data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Ohio Department of Health and Ohio’s Long-term Care Consumer Guide and other sources like Google Earth. 

On the call, Takitch and ODA Legislative Liaison Alex Lapso confirmed that the state will move towards creating a similar tool for assisted living communities, though the timeframe for this is uncertain. The Long-term Care Consumer Guide will continue to exist parallel to the Quality Navigator with no plans to phase it out in the near future. Any tool for assisted living would necessarily be much less comprehensive since publicly available data on the care setting is scarce.
