Director for Consumer Information

The Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging (BRIA) is a premiere, not-for-profit research and direct service organization in Cleveland, Ohio. The Director for Consumer Information is a new full time position within BRIA’s Center for Research and Education that will oversee the creation and launch the “Consumer Information Initiative.” This Initiative will provide all types of information resources to empower older adults and family caregivers to:

Maintain health, wellness, social engagement, and active aging
Effectively managing chronic health conditions, and/or the demands of caregiving
Live as independently as possible in all types of housing or residential settings
Make informed decisions on any aging-related situation, life-event, challenge, or opportunity.

The Initiative will use innovative approaches for disseminating information including the full range of current and emerging technologies. The Initiative also will be designed to reach diverse populations, including those with limited experience and/or access to electronic resources.

The overall goal is to have a strong local, national, and international impact on the quality of virtual, in-person, and print information available to and accessed by older adults and their families. This will include developing, testing, and broad-scale dissemination of information materials and -programs that have proven positive impacts on consumer outcomes.

This position reports to the Senior Vice President for Research and Education. Although based in the Center for Research and Education, the Director for Consumer Information will collaborate closely with all BRIA departments in creating and executing activities within the new Initiative. The Initiative is an organization-wide activity that is integral to the BRIA Strategic Plan.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with BRIA’s Senior Management to develop and launch the Consumer Information Initiative.
Build an innovative program of quality information that reflects BRIA’s role as a leader in the dissemination and development of local, national, and international resources for older adults and families facing all types of issues of aging.
Plan, develop, and disseminate informational materials through local, national, and international conferences and events; webinars; the BRIA website; and collaborations with member- and service-organizations in the field of aging.
Translate research findings into informational materials for older adults and family members.
Conduct research to determine the best approaches for providing quality information that align with the preferences of older adults and their family members.
Provide information and training for professionals who work in the field of aging to facilitate high quality services and supports for older adults and their families.
Disseminate information that promotes improvements in society’s ability to meet the needs and preferences of the growing population of older adults and family caregivers.
Seek funding to support new efforts to develop, test, and disseminate informational resources that research indicates are most useful for older adults, their families, and professionals who serve them.

QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree (e.g., masters, PhD) in education, gerontology, a behavioral or social science, business, communications, marketing, social work, nursing or related field.
Professional expertise with issues of aging and/or family caregiving.
Experience with planning, developing, and disseminating informational resources through activities such as conferences, in-person and/or online events, print materials, and websites.
Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to collaborate with a team of professionals from various disciplines and backgrounds. This includes the ability to effectively supervise staff.
Excellent knowledge and skills in use of technology for information dissemination.
Experience with grant writing, and the ability to conduct and/or collaborate in research on access to, and use and impact of information.
Background check and drug test required.
