Part-Time Medical Director Opportunity

In order to affirm life and recognize death as a natural process, Hospice will care for patients and their loved ones, empower them to cope with terminal illness to enhance the quality of life as they prepare for a peaceful and dignified death, and continuously improve the delivery of quality care. We will assist and serve as a resource in the processes of death, dying, grief, and bereavement.

Position Summary: 

  • Provides direction, leadership and oversight of hospice and palliative care medical service delivery.
  • Provides physician direction and guidance to the Interdisciplinary Team and attending physicians to ensure continuity of hospice medical services and maintenance of quality care for patients and families.
  • Represents HNCO within the medical community, advocates for patients, and promotes HNCO's mission and programs.
  • Serves as a liaison and contact between the hospice and palliative care program, community physicians, care facilities and affiliated hospitals in order to develop and expand the number of patients served by hospice.
  • Occasional primary care responsibilities may be possible if a patient is GIP status in a skilled nursing facility. Our service area is Ashland 50%, Knox 25% and Richland 25%, with primary responsibility for Ashland County.
  • There is an opportunity for the Medical Director to help shape the duties and function of this role.


Position Responsibilities: 

  • The role is anticipated to require about 4-8 hours per week, including attending IDT meetings every two weeks and a monthly management meeting. However, these hours could increase based on the advocacy and community involvement availability of the individual.
  • Weekday on-call availability (average 1 call per night) for medicine adjustments regarding pain management or pronouncement of death (phone only). 
  • One weekend on-call per month.

Compensation includes monthly stipend, hourly reimbursement and on-call per diem rates.
