Strengthen your policy muscle with the Policy and Advocacy Bootcamp Series!

Policy decisions and grassroots advocacy play one of the largest roles in the sustainability of a thriving system that supports aging services. Policy decisions are frequently reflected in practice changes and resource allocations, including legislative and regulatory outcomes at the federal, state, and local levels. Grassroots advocacy helps shape dialogue among change-agents and key decision makers.

In this policy and advocacy bootcamp series, attendees will learn about the legislative and regulatory basics, including how the state operating budget moves through the Ohio legislature and what Lame Duck can mean for aging services. Additionally, attendees will garner hands-on, out of the box ways to increase their advocacy profile that supports their facility, residents, and profession.  Lastly, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from lobbyists, lawmakers, and LeadingAge Ohio member advocates.

During March 5th's 1-hour session, the differences between the federal and state legislative landscape, the makeup of each chamber in the Ohio General Assembly and the legislative process in Ohio will be presented.  The process of how a bill becomes a law and how to identify the name of one’s own personal representative and senator will also be discussed.  Learners will also gain knowledge regarding the impact policy can have on aging services and why it is important to advocate for residents and professions within health care.
