Tax Valuation Bill Reintroduced in Ohio Senate

Senator Matt Huffman (R-Lima) has reintroduced a bill that would change the basis for real estate tax assessment for subsidized housing properties. If SB36 passes, real estate taxes would be assessed based on market rates for those properties. The bill is a response to a court case, Notestine Manor, Inc. v. Logan County Board of Revision, which went to the Ohio Supreme Court. The bill is currently under consideration of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, where it has had two hearings.

LeadingAge Ohio is part of a coalition of housing advocates that is opposing the bill, which would be devastating for affordable housing across the state.
