Hospice of Northwest Ohio Receives Community Award

In recognition of their golden anniversary, the Greater Toledo Community Foundation (GTCF) selected Hospice of Northwest Ohio for its Golden Anniversary Nonprofit Excellence Award.

Earlier this year, GTCF invited past awardees to submit an application that answered just one question: “In the last 50 years, what has been your organization’s most impactful program, project or partnership—and why?”

Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s application focused on their donor-funded inpatient centers and what having these resources available has meant for patients and families in the community seeking compassionate, quality end-of-life care.

A review committee narrowed the field to six finalists. Attendees at the Northwest Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Awards breakfast on October 26 voted on the overall winner. Hospice of Northwest Ohio was selected to receive the Golden Anniversary Nonprofit Excellence Award, which includes an unrestricted grant of $25,000 from the Greater Toledo Community Foundation!

Says Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s Vice President of Philanthropy John Lechman,

“It is thanks to the generosity of the community that Hospice of Northwest Ohio was founded more than 42 years ago, and that welcoming and homelike inpatient centers were built. Providing care, respite, comfort and hope, the Hospice of Northwest Ohio inpatient units changed the way people in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan view and experience serious illness and end-of-life. The gifts of these facilities remain among the most profound and impactful health care programs made possible by philanthropy in northwest Ohio since the founding of our first hospital in 1855.”
